Keep Valentine Flowers Longer
Oh how we love being in the company of colorful flowers! They just make us smile, and we never want it to end.
We can’t change the inevitable, beautiful flowers will eventually wilt. And, after a holiday that is filled with vases of flowers upon vases of flowers it can even be harder to see those petals succumb to gravity. We say, if you can extend their life span than why not add a few little ingredients to their diet.
Who wouldn’t want to preserve this kind of beauty?
We’ve said the bleach trick many times on the show, but we have a few more to share with you. The flower meal plan is so easy and includes ingredients you most likely will have in your house already.
Thirsty flowers? Add:
- 2 tablespoons of vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 quart water
Blooming flowers? Add:
- 2 drops household bleach
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 quart water
Wilting poppies, dahlias, or orchids? Sear them:
- hold the stems to a flame for a quick sear
- place in a vase with WARM water
These flowers have hollow stems and the milky substance seeps out when they are cut. So, a quick sear will close of the pores.
Making pretty bouquets last a few more days is ok in our book, but what we really wish would not last as long: the candy and cookie stash!
Tell us what types of flowers you gave or received this Valentine’s Day on Twitter or Facebook! I would love to hear about all the beautifulness.
