Simple Watermelon Recipes

Nothing says summer like a watermelon sliced up into big pieces shaped like smiles and ready to be eaten out on the patio where drips are welcome. Is there any better feeling than cutting into a watermelon that is at its peak ripeness? When you go to choose a watermelon, you want to make sure it has a uniform shape and a dull appearance (as opposed to a super shiny rind). Look for a yellow patch on the watermelon, which is where it rested as it ripened on the ground, and avoid watermelons with a white spot or no spots at all.

A slice of this summertime treat can be used in so many ways, from appetizers to desserts. Experiment with the subtly sweet fruit by pairing it with a salty cheese, like feta, or adding it on top of your favorite grilled meat.
