Simply Minty Menus

Last week the Workshop turned into a very busy North Pole…But instead of toys, we were busy little elves making a holiday tabletop for 8 out of $50 worth of dollar store finds. It was all part of Good Morning America’s Dollar Store Duel, where I went head-to-head with creative genius Jonathan Adler.

The segment came together beautifully. It was such fun and really put me in the holiday spirit (a friendly competition always seems to get me going…). With crackers, candy and a lot of hot glue, my table turned into a “gingerbread” house village, complete with tinsel trees, a Club cracker high rise and Cheez-It cottage!

Although the houses looked adorable, my favorite project from the table is the Minty Menu Cards. These are totally festive and a snap to make- try them out for your Christmas dinner!

What you’ll need…

• Peppermints, unwrapped
• Metal cookie cutters
• Cookie sheet
• Wax paper
• Non-stick cooking spray
• Hot glue gun and glue
• Cardstock

Get started…

1.  Line a cookie sheet with wax paper. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
2.  Generously spray the inside of your cookie cutters with non-stick cooking spray.
3.  Put your cookie cutters on top of the wax paper and place a layer of peppermints inside, flat. Crush up a few mints and sprinkle on top of the first layer. (There will be empty spaces between the mints, but don’t worry- it will melt together when heated.)

4.  Put your tray in the oven for 5-6 minutes.
5.  Remove when the top layer looks melted, but you can still see the peppermint’s stripes. Let cool at room temperature.
6.  After about 10-15 minutes of cooling, gently push your mint out of the cookie cutter.
7.  Repeat steps 3-6 so that you have two mints of each shape that you want to make into a menu card.
8.  Print out the menu of your holiday meal or write it on cardstock paper. Cut into a square slightly larger than the width of your cookie cutter shape.
9.  Hot glue the rough sides of the peppermints and stick the menu card in between. Let the glue cool and you’ve got your very own Minty Menu Card!
