Floor Pillows

MATERIALS

  • 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 foot rug (approximately)
  • Black yarn
  • Contact paper
  • Black latex paint
  • Tape
  • Pillow stuffing
  • Heavy needle
  • Pen or pencil
  • Ruler/measuring tape
  • Small paint roller
  • Rotary blade

DIRECTIONS

  1. Fold the rug in half and whip stitch around ¾ of the pillow.

  2. Roll out and cut enough contact paper to cover the width of the pillow.

  3. Fold the contact paper in half. The back side showing.

  4. Tape it to a surface so it doesn’t curl while you are working with it.

  5. You should use almost the entire height of the contact paper for the heart, leaving about 2 inches at the top and bottom. The widest part of the heart should be about 3 inches from the edge. Mark these three points on your contact paper.

  6. Connect the points to form a heart and cut. Remember, you’ll be using the outside of the heart for a stencil.

  7. Find the middle of the rug and attach the stencil by peeling backing and adhering securely to the rug.

  8. Using your roller and paint, fill in the heart. Always start in the center and work towards the edges—you’ll have less bleeding. It should take 2 to 3 coats.

  9. When it’s completely dry, stuff, and finish sewing.
