Drops of Good

If you know me, you know I am always looking for a reason to return to my home state of Michigan. However today I am particularly proud to be in the great lakes state because I have teamed up with Maxwell House Coffee, whose Drops of Good Program is donating 50 thousand dollars to revitalize a community center in downtown Detroit. I will be putting some of the finishing touches on a newly renovated home for older foster youth who have aged out of the system. This house will serve as a safe place to live for 18-21 year olds while also receiving counseling services and participating in career-building programs. All of the heavy remodeling work has been completed so I get the fun job of adding the elements that I believe will make this house feel like a home. I have my list of things that make me feel like a house is complete but I am wondering if any of you have any tips or suggestions of your own that might help me make this very special place even more homey……..

My Home Sweet Home List Includes….

Some type of a Board that has all the highlights and comings and goings of the neighborhood and the house so everyone feels included.

Spotted On Country Living

Some type of something on the front door that reflects the feeling of the house to welcome friends, family, and the people who live there.

Spotted On Blogspot

A coffee pot (filled with Maxwell House Coffee of course) so that everyone can pull up a chair, take a break, and bond as they chat and sip.

Spotted On Pinterest

Throw pillows, throw rugs and throw blankets to create cozy areas.

Spotted On Lifetime

Frames to be filled with art work and photos for everyone to fill, giving the home a personal touch.

Spotted On Hall Ready

Please send me what’s on your list, I really want to do a good job for these kids.

How about some ‘subway art’ with encouraging and motivational words for the kids? Something that assures them of their value and worth in the eyes of God would be wonderful … Jeremiah 29:11 “for I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans for good and not evil” or Jeremiah 31:3 “I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with loving kindness” … something that will help them see that they are loved by God. I can’t think of a better gift to give than the truth of God’s Word. http://www.redletterwords.com has wonderful faith inspired art! I think it would be perfect for a project like this!
